I believe Demo embodies more of what makes Valve's characters so good and memorable than Scout. Honestly, it's surprising to me that Scout is seen as more memorable than Demo, when it should be quite the opposite. Scout is funny, but he's not exactly unique. But when have you ever heard a story like Demoman's? He accidentally killed his adoptive parents with a bomb, then after his bomb-making skills improved, his real parents came to pick him up and explained that this was tradition. He lost his eye to a talking spellbook and every Halloween his missing eye haunts the mercenaries as a Halloween boss. He has a haunted sword that talks to him. He has three jobs, lives his life so drunk that when deprived of alcohol, his organs create it themselves, has a mansion, and loves his mom. He's ridiculous and iconic. Scout is great, but he just can't compare to that.
